Art and Technique (Ages 5-7) – 1 hr 15 min x 10 weeks
In this class we will explore various fiber art techniques. We will experiment with batik and create wall hangings, print onto fabric and make garlands, learn simple weaving, and make polymer clay buttons and beads to add to projects. We will practice stitching and make mini stuffed animals, crafting beds or homes for them to live in. Throughout the semester we will discuss 2D vs. 3D forms, taking inspiration from Gabriel Dawe and Janet Echelman, two contemporary fiber artists working in 3D. This class favors process over product, allowing for artistic discovery and emergent curriculum.
