Welcome to another semester at Muckykids! We look forward to a cozy winter of arts and crafts!

Muckykids Art Studio offers a variety of classes for kids aged 18 mo. through 12 years. Class series consist of ten weekly sessions. Sessions run anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, as noted in the class descriptions. The class series listed are our offerings for the Winter 2019 semester, which starts January 7, 2019. Sensory Fun (Ages 18-36 mo.) – 45 min. x 10 weeks
Come paint with trucks, fingers and brushes! Explore slime, color mixing, glue, clay, magnetism, sound and more! Each week there is a varied selection of sensory-rich, art-themed projects. Sensory Fun is a wonderful opportunity to participate in your young child’s artistic exploration and discovery. This is a process-based class, with a focus on open-ended activities. Please come prepared to get messy! Enrollment limited to 10 per section.

Art Explorations (Ages 3+4) – 1 hr x 10 weeks
In this class for preschoolers we will explore basic art concepts and skills! There will be projects that allow for experimentation in line quality, color theory, shape, 2D vs. 3D, cutting, printing, gluing, simple stitching, and more. Some of the projects will include using a batik technique to look at line quality, mono printing on felt, wax resist, shape collage, color mixing, sculpture activities, and needlepoint. We will even make a mini quilt and cozy bed for a favorite stuffed animal! This is a process-based class, allowing for individual expression, experimentation, and emergent curriculum.

Art and Science for 3-4’s (Ages 3-4) – 1 hr x 10 weeks
In this class we will have a blast thinking and acting like the creative scientists that we already are!! As a group we will predict outcomes, explore the process of experimentation, and examine results. Some of the many activities will include: painting with pendulums, building simple molecules with air dry clay, magnifying drawings with polymer balls, catching and bending light, making colorful potions, and building simple circuits. Enrollment limited to 8 per section.

Art and Technique (Ages 5-7) – 1 hr 15 min x 10 weeks
In this class we will explore various fiber art techniques. We will experiment with batik and create wall hangings, print onto fabric and make garlands, learn simple weaving, and make polymer clay buttons and beads to add to projects. We will practice stitching and make mini stuffed animals, crafting beds or homes for them to live in. Throughout the semester we will discuss 2D vs. 3D forms, taking inspiration from Gabriel Dawe and Janet Echelman, two contemporary fiber artists working in 3D. This class favors process over product, allowing for artistic discovery and emergent curriculum.

Fiber Arts (Ages 8-12) – 2 hrs x 10 weeks
In a relaxed, cozy atmosphere come spend, in total, 20 hours exploring traditional and modern fiber art techniques, with the joy of crafting and creative spontaneity flavoring it all.\

Throughout the semester we will look at fiber artists, past and present. We will discuss 2D vs. 3D. We will explore different types of fabric and other fiber-based mediums. And we will have ample opportunity to create individual projects, depending on where inspiration leads!

Some projects we will take on include:
* Batik
* Woven wall hangings
* Printing onto fabric
* Embroidery and hand stitching
* Fabric collage on wood
* Crafting tassels and pompoms
* Using polymer clay to sculpt buttons and beads to incorporate into projects

Bring dinner along, if you’d like, to eat during this two-hour evening class.
This is a class that allows for individual project ideas and exploration, therefore is for all skill levels.
